Vacation Work Pt.1

After a few days break (plus a weekend B-day break) I got to digging around the  youtube’s  for a decen t  tutorial. Thought I found a good one in this Unreal tutorial :  Blueprint Creating Interactions in VR with Motion Controllers | 01 | Live Training | Unreal Engine - YouTube  but turns out, it’s still as disappointing as the other one I watched  🙁   I imagine this persistent issue is because these instructional videos are done over a live stream, which is to an audience and it makes the guys nervous. Additionally, they seem to be more tailored to people who have a basic understanding, whereas I find myself on the VERY basic understand of the software. I happened to see this one in my recommended:  Super-easy VR body with Arm IK and thumbstick locomotion  which turned out to be way more helpful. What Even is Research

For a day with only 2 easy classes, I'm truly exhausted. Something in my psychology 101 class got me thinking though. As an example for how a case study are conducted, a study into using VR as exposure therapy for Vietnam veterans was used (Virtual reality exposure therapy for PTSD Vietnam veterans: A case study (Rothbaum, 1999)). While I'm not looking to do VR for my assignment, it got me thinking, are there studies that could use motion capture that seem unconventional? It's easy to see now that using VR would make sense after the fact, but I don't have that quite yet. So, the key now is to mash two ideas into one. I think I should look further into some problems in sociology and psychology. Perhaps there I could find my happy middle. Oh, and here's a video that's been making me laugh for the past three days:  Kid and Dad Trombone Has nothing to do with this post, but humor is the best cure to any problem.

To VR, or Not to VR

Finally had time to sit down and look into getting the VR stuff working... and well, it's a lot more involved for today than I expected. Thank goodness Travis Hoove was in today, cause I really had no idea where to begin with the headsets. Drexel has like, 3 different headsets, which can all be used for this potential project, but he really helped with directing me towards the hardware and software that is (probably) the best for my endeavors. So the short of it is that he recommends I try out the Oculus Rift since it works best with making iterations on a project. He was highly recommending using the rift S, but Drexel doesn't have one (though he did offer me to try his personal headset).
