Vacation Work Pt.1

After a few days break (plus a weekend B-day break) I got to digging around the  youtube’s  for a decen t  tutorial. Thought I found a good one in this Unreal tutorial :  Blueprint Creating Interactions in VR with Motion Controllers | 01 | Live Training | Unreal Engine - YouTube  but turns out, it’s still as disappointing as the other one I watched  🙁   I imagine this persistent issue is because these instructional videos are done over a live stream, which is to an audience and it makes the guys nervous. Additionally, they seem to be more tailored to people who have a basic understanding, whereas I find myself on the VERY basic understand of the software. I happened to see this one in my recommended:  Super-easy VR body with Arm IK and thumbstick locomotion  which turned out to be way more helpful. Plus, seeing how he constructed this basic set up makes me think it’s possible to get what I want with those same nodes, just a different configuration. W hat I think needs to be

Will Pt.1 Happen?

Well, the answer to that is kind  of  no.   I was trying to just get a build with VR hands, and that wasn’t working.  To preface this, I was using the VR template to get started. The starting level isn’t  actually a  starting level, however. It’s just used to direct you to the levels  that work best with your HMD (Head mounted display). Didn’t know that this entire time though.    I was watching the first ~10min of  Unreal’s  video of what I thought was close to what I’m looking for ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcbSzvSAK-0 )   Then I ran into an error that I had no idea how to  begin  to fix   At that point I started looking for another video to help me out,  cause  I wasn’t about to go solve this error if I could learn another way to do this. It was also today I learned that these Live Training videos aren’t necessarily the most helpful, because I learned more from this guy Dave Kay  in his tutorial than  I did with the UE4 video.  The biggest t

When Problems Disappear and New Ones Reappear

I'm writing this part of the post before I go into the labs: So,  I figured out my problem from yesterday...probably, I have yet to go into the lab to try to fix it because it’s been occupied. But according to this link:  https://wiki.unrealengine.com/UE4_Installation_Troubleshooting  the problem is the build/version/something of the visual studio. After getting into the lab: So before I tried uninstall something, I tried opening UE again, and it worked  😐 No idea why it didn't work yesterday.  (4:57pm)    I just spent about 5 min playing with  vr  editor mode, then 30min trying to get out of it   Alt + V in case  anyone  was wondering   https://forums.unrealengine.com/development-discussion/vr-ar-development/121711-how-to-exit-vr-mode   Actually, most  of my time was spent trying to set up, and see if the controls would work, the headset functions, but the controllers don’t. I think I need to set them up as something, but I need to f

Setting Up VR in UE

So mentally back tracking on how to set up all the hardware/software: I need the optitrack computer to talk to the VR computer (the one in the back with the headset attached) via networking. Thus far, I have gotten the beast and the optitrack computer to talk via wifi connection, so that’s probably my best bet   Next is that I need to get the correct version of unreal on the VR computer, along with the plugin   The correct version for UE is 4.22.3   The plugin for optitrack 1.22   Need a human to stream into with a headset   Will need to figure out how to marker up with a headset...also, how am I supposed to keep someone in volume with the headset on... (11:06am)   As of today, I plan to set up the VR computer with the correct software and plugins, and build out a scene with  the  vicon  model (it’s the easiest, and we know it works as opposed to a custom rig).  I think  at the moment  the best way to get this to work by Monday is to have a separate object that isn’t
